Vital Statistics (Births, Deaths and Marriages)

In compliance with state regulations, the Bureau of Vital Statistics keeps records of all births, deaths and marriages. Information on how to obtain a marriage license and certified copies of births and deaths that occurred in Little Falls are available by calling the Township's Municipal Clerk at (973) 256-0170 or contact via email at CKRAUS@LITTLEFALLSNJ.GOV

Marriage License

LICENSE FEE IS $28.00 (Check or Money Order)

TRANSCRIPT FEE IS $8.00 PER CERTIFIED COPY (Check or Money Order)

Required documents when applying for a Marriage License: 

The marriage or civil union license must be obtained from the Registrar in the New Jersey municipality in which either applicant resides, if one or both is resident of New Jersey. If both parties are not residents of New Jersey, the license must be obtained from the Registrar of the municipality where the ceremony is to be performed and is only god for use in that municipality.

Both applicants and one witness, (over the age of 18) must appear before the Registrar to apply for the Marriage Certificate, minimally 72 hours before wedding date.
  • Proof of identity by presenting your driver’s license, passport or state/federal I.D.
  • Proof of residency by one applicant if a NJ resident.
  • Social Security numbers must be provided.*
  • The marriage license is filed in the town the marriage took place in (not necessarily where it was applied for). 
  • If either of the applicants or the witness do not speak English, you must bring a translator.
  • Marriage officiant Information – Applicants should have information about who is going to marry them, where, and when the ceremony will take place. The information must include the mailing address and phone number of the officiant.

* Your social security number is required by law for US citizens and will be kept confidential.

Three Day Waiting Period:

In New Jersey there is a mandatory 72 hour waiting period from the time that you apply for a license until the license may be issued. Since the office is closed on weekends, please plan accordingly.

Certificate of Domestic Partnership

To register a domestic partnership in the state of New Jersey applicants must:

  • Execute an Affidavit of Domestic Partnership Form together in the presence of a Notary Public
  • File the notarized Affidavit Form with the local Registrar in any municipality in New Jersey to obtain a Certificate of Domestic Partnership
  • Provide valid ID for each applicant
  • Identify common residence in the state of New Jersey
  • Joint Deed, Mortgage or Lease
  • Joint Bank Account
  • Designation of one of the person as primary beneficiary in the other's will
  • Designation of one of the persons a primary beneficiary in the other's life
  • Joint ownership of a motor vehicle

Birth Certificates

TRANSCRIPT FEE IS $8.00 PER CERTIFIED COPY (Check or Money Order)

  • Births are registered in the town in which they occur
  • The Registrar must authenticate the identity of the requestor and his or her relationship with the subject of the vital record

Death Certificates

TRANSCRIPT FEE IS $8.00 PER CERTIFIED COPY (Check or Money Order)

  • Death certificates are filed in the place of death, not where the individual lived.
  • The Registrar must authenticate the identity of the requestor and his or her relationship with the subject on the vital record.
